With the photographs of Vasil Tasevski and the texts of Fragan Gehlker
Vasil and Fragan met at the National Circus Arts Center in Châlons-en Champagne (CNAC). In 2010, during the tour of URBAN RABBITs, their school show, their first photographic experiments began.
Subsequently, Vasil regularly came to photograph the show Le Vide during his tours. If he also knew very well Alexis, musician or sound creator of his projects in the Collectif Porte 27, it is by chance that we have entered his framework, we « the team of the Void ». The aesthetic universe of the falls and the spectacular figures began to cohabit with daily scenes of our collective life, the situations arising from the set up and the moments shared outside the theaters.
We wanted a photographic book that puts into dialogue the two aesthetics of Vasil’s work : circus movements and everyday life. Because both converge also in The Void : the extraordinary and the repetitive, the grandiose and the invisible minutia. We proposed to Vasil a unit of time and place : the representations of the Void in The Quartz of Brest in may 2017. He spent six days with us, four days during the set up and two days of performances. His creative process is based on improvisation, so this book does not pretend to tell the story of a show or to portray a company. The photos testify above all what is there, in the ephemeral of life.
